Flood Insurance Is Still Required for Approximately 30,000 South Area Property Owners
Approximately 30,000 Sacramento property owners will remain subject to the Federal flood insurance requirement until the completion of flood control improvements to their South Area community. Property that is located in this area continues to face a high-level flood risk and is not yet eligible for low-cost flood insurance. In this area, called the South Sacramento Streams Group floodplain, there are three major sources of flood risk: (1) the American River, (2) the Sacramento River and (3) the South Sacramento Streams that travel through local flood control channels. The Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency (SAFCA), the City of Sacramento and Sacramento County are working to reduce the flood risk posed by each of these potential threats to property and public safety.
